Osira Overwatch

March 21st, 2017 is known as the day Orisa enters the battle in Overwatch. Look out, there’s a new quadrupedal robot in town and her name is Orisa. The 24th and latest hero to be added to the game by Blizzard is versatile, strong and has fun unique abilities. Based on the OR-15 robots, Orisa was created by an 11-year-old genius named Efi Oladele after Doomfist attacked her country Numbani, Efi assembled Orisa from the parts of the short-lived OR-15 robots and Orisa with being the guardian of the Numbani people. An intriguing origin story released by Blizzard tells the tale of a young girl creating a deadly machine, with the primary purpose of keeping you safe as Orisa herself puts it.

Orisa has a range of abilities for players to master. Her right arm is a Fusion Driver, a gun with a good rate of fire and decent damage, which will slow her movement when firing. It has a very large magazine, which allows Orisa to spam her enemies with bullets. Whilst firing Orisas speed is reduced so should you find yourself faced with a group of enemies, it’s better to hightail out of there without firing.

She also has the ability to place a projectile shield down, which means she could serve as the replacement to having a Reinhardt on your team. The shield has 900 hit points as is the standard and is around half the size of Winston’s barrier bubble. The projectile shield lasts 20 seconds and has a cooldown of 12 seconds, however, you are not able to stack the shield and have multiple instances of the barrier deployed at one time. It is possible to place another barrier in the same location and essentially ‘refresh’ the barrier.

Fortify and Supercharger i abilities that Buff damage and decreased damage taken respectively. With Fortify Orisa can reduce damage taken by 50%, which you can do simultaneously whilst firing at your enemies. Supercharger is deployable and has a 25-meter range that buffs damage dealt. It’s actually something that looks like a Djembe, which is an African drum. For 15 seconds after deploying or after all of its 200 hit points have been depleted the device increases the damage you will deal as Orisa, but it also gives allies within line of sight the boost as well.

The last ability Orisa has in her arsenal is ‘Halt!’ By launching a graviton charge, it slows nearby enemies down, pulling them towards the explosion and sometimes, out of the map for some hilarious environment kills. The idea seems to be you can group a bunch of enemies together, whilst you and your team unload your weapons on them.

With some of lowest hit points out of the all the tanks in Overwatch Orisa isn’t one to sit their and take the full brunt of your enemies attacks, but she is no glass cannon either, she does however, have the damage reduction which can compensate for her lack of hit points. Whilst her hit points to sit at 400, using Fortify essentially makes them 800, as it half’s all damage taken. The fact you can use Fortify whilst firing makes for some pretty interesting styles of play possible. Her gameplay style seems to involve buffing yourself and your team, placing your shield and doing damage as quick as you can before making your exit to safety.

Orisa is what’s being called an ‘Anchor Tank’ and benefits from having a team around her. Her difficulty level is shown as 2-star on the official Overwatch website, which puts her at around the same skill level as D.Va or Winston. By protecting your Supercharger with the Projectile shield, as Orisa you are able to buff yourself and players, whilst dealing some heavy damage, all at the same time.

There is also a range of different outfits to equip Orisa with, some with more subtle changes like color changes and some with more aesthetic changes. The 24th character in Overwatch has a certain charm about her. When Efi reconfigured Orisa with a personality core, she not only gave Numbani a guardian but a strong female guardian with a human element. This latest addition looks to continue Blizzard’s trend of introducing fun, unique and interesting characters. Orisa is to be released into the Overwatch world on the 21st March 2017.
